Winter warmup.

Today I took advantage of a balmy 50 degree day and did a little work. I got the rest of the suspension on the passenger side off and taken apart. I also got the brake lines for the front cut out.

Sprung

I decided to heat up my garage a little bit and do some work this afternoon. I got the shock cut out and then managed to get the spring off. What a harrowing experience compressing the spring to remove it.

Seatbelts

Well, we had a break in the weather today, so I did a little work on the mustang. We got the shoulder point for the rear seat belts installed. I have them riveted in for now and will weld them in next time I fire up the welder.

Making space

It has been a busy few weeks, but this weekend I managed to remove the complete power steering system. I had to use the torch and bfh quite a bit, but it is all out and apart now.

More painting

Well, it was unseasonably warm today, so I decided to get the painting finished on the shell of the car. We scuffed the top layer of basecoat, then I sprayed on another layer of the paint. I then sprayed it with 3 coats of urethane clear. It went on a little hazy, but eventually laid out smooth. I do have some areas of overspray and a bit of orange peel, but since it is just in the clear, I will be able to sand and buff it out in the spring. Pics to come...

Back to some body work.

Well, enough rest, time to get back to some body work. I got the filler on the driver side door patch. Ashley then got the passenger fender stripped. Harrison and I then went to pressure washing it to expose the 2 previous filler spots. I will need to grind these out and fill with steel first.

Seat work

Did some work on the seat this afternoon. There was a tear in the bench seat that needed repair. I used a patch kit to fill it. It will hold the seat together and disguise it until I decide to recover it. We then got the headrests dyed. I also was able to get the export brace and Monte Carlo bar installed in the engine bay. I had the pry the shock towers apart a little bit (50 years of the frame sagging), but I finally got it in place.

WOW

Well, we tented the garage and sprayed some color it's afternoon. Came out pretty nice. There is a little over spray and some light orange peel, but nothing we can't wet sand out.

One step back, then three ahead...

Well, I really noticed some "cellulite" on each side from the filler, so we sanded down both the quarters. We then put in some more filler and spent the beginning of the weekend block sanding. This morning it got a few more layers of primer. We all spent the afternoon wet sanding (even the kids got into it). It is so much smoother now. Ready to build the booth in the garage and get painting.

More exhaust work

I got the rear sections of the exhaust mounted today. I found a few problems with interference with one of the headers. It looks like the best option will be to convert to manual steering. I have to replace some of the linkage anyways, so it isn't such a big deal.

PRETTY!!!

Paint came in today, so I had to go spray something. Here is the ash tray painted with the final color for the car, Eastwood Jaded Green Metallic. It is perfect, it is almost black in the shade and pops flashy green in the sun,

Driver side door work

I got started on the mess of  driver side door. I got the front panel patched and welded. I then got started on the back side. I will probably need about 5 individual patches for the bottom.

Interior Dye

Ashley worked on dying the interior today. She got the dash, visors, pillars and door panels all dyed black.
