PITA

Wow. I HATE door windows. Let me say that again, I HATE door windows. An entire day of frustration today, and we managed to get the driver's side window in. Finally. I have to wait a few days now to do the passenger side. I need a new spring for the door latch. We will work on the rear quarter windows next. Did I mention that I HATE door windows?

Get a grip

I was restless tonight, so I went out and put the new door handles on.

Gaskets and gaskets

Today we got the rear window installed and sealed. I also got the door window seals on and the drip rail moulding.

I can see clearly now (kind of)

I got going early this morning and got the intake manifold,  valve covers and new carburetor mounted. I will still need to finish the throttle linkage and vacuum lines. Ashley then gave me a hand getting the windshield installed. The little clips that needed to be installed to hold the windshield trim were a PITA. The toughest part was getting the gasket onto the glass. Everything else with mounting went smoothly (and messy).

Clipped

Today was a good day. We got the headliner in. I then tore the top of the engine off to make way for some new goodies. While installing the intake, I realized that my torque wrench wasn't working when I snapped off an intake stud. Time to get some new studs, and a new torque wrench. On a side note, the old girl's engine internals look great for a 48 year old.

Sanding and sanding and washing and polishing

Ashley was feeling energetic this afternoon so we (mostly her) got the rest of the car color sanded. I then buffed it and she gave it a good wash afterwards.  Time to get the interior back in now.

Parking brake conversion.

The old hand pull style parking brake was no longer going to work with the disc brake conversion, so I decided to install a 1969 style pedal operated parking brake. It was a little tough to make everything fit correctly because of all the other extras I put on (exhaust etc...), but it is on and operating now.

More sanding...

This afternoon was a warm one, but we managed to get the passenger side quarter and door cut and buffed.

Sanding, Sanding, Sanding.....

Well, I spent a few hours today wet sanding and then buffing the roof of the car. The orange peel was the worst on the roof, and it was going to take the most work on the car. After 4 hours of wet sanding and buffing, this is what I got. Pretty shiny and not to bad. It will look fine as I drive past.

DIY Sequential LED Taillights

I have posted a new YouTube video on how I built my sequential LED taillights. The total cost came in at $27.85. I used the following parts from Ebay:

DC 12V Delay Timer Switch Adjustable Module 0 to 10 Second
Qty - 4
Price Each - $1.72

2PC Red Motorcycle Truck LED Light Rectangle Reflector Tail Brake Marker Trailer
Qty - 3 (sold in pairs)
Price Pair - $6.99

This is the wiring diagram I created.

Some Progress...

I haven't updated the blog in a few days, but in the meantime we got the brake lines finished. I also got started on my under $30 dollar sequential LED taillights mod. I will be finishing and posting the video. Below is a sneak preview.

Officially a door slammer

Well, Ashley and I got the doors mounted and aligned. The we decided to tackle the exhaust. After I got a spool of stainless in my welder, I got the ball connectors welded to the header flanges (pretty nice welds if I do say so myself). We the managed to get the rest of the exhaust welded and hung. I have to take one of the collector flanges to an exhaust shop in the morning to have the pipe expanded, but otherwise the exhaust is done.

Painting...

Yesterday afternoon I found myself with a little time, so I got the door hinges, quarter extensions, quarter louvers and inner doors painted. Today, I managed to get the outer doors wet sanded and painted. There was a lot of pollen in the air today and I got some crap in the clear, so hopefully I will be able to cut and buff most of it out. I just have to do what Ashley keeps reminding me and remember it is a car meant to be driven. It will look great as I fly by.
